The design of custom connection details enabled a seamless and smooth fabrication and install process while maintaining the intended organic and minimalist look.
To achieve a form true to concept, the sculpture was hand-formed by rolling and hammering sheet metal, with fully welded seams and hand-polished to achieve a perfectly smooth surface.
Cycloid V
Inspired by the latest astrophysics theories, Cycloid V explores the universal questions at the intersection of life, death, reality, and technology. The large-scale organic form wraps the internal column of the gallery. In close collaboration with the artist and the gallery the awe-inspiring Cycloid V, a large-scale, abstract organic structure was designed and engineered the site-specific sculpture utilizing innovative fabrication techniques to bring Mori's highly precise concept to life.
With an eye for detail, the sculpture was meticulously hand-formed by rolling and hammering sheet metal, with fully welded seams and a hand-polished surface that is perfectly smooth to the touch. To achieve the desired finish, the sculpture was then painted with a signature coating.
Working closely with Mori throughout the design development and fabrication process, we explored the possibilities of materials and forms, ensuring that the final work achieved the artist's vision. The resulting masterpiece is inspired by the latest theories in astrophysics, marking Mori's transition from smaller works to large-scale sculptures.
