American Copper Buildings Lobby
The American Copper Buildings designed by SHoP Architects have transformed the East River with their dancing copper towers. These two residential towers feature a bold and dynamic design, with their copper cladding representing the world's tallest copper-clad building. With SHoP’s vision as creative intent and fabricated by UAP we helped translate the design into fabrication-ready models and drawings and designed the custom support structure to accommodate the complex, undulating vertical slat wall geometry.
The complex and undulating vertical slat wall geometry required a high degree of precision, mass customization and attention to detail to ensure that the wall was not only aesthetically pleasing but also structurally sound.
Parametric software was used to translate SHoP's design files into computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) files and shop drawings. This process allowed for any changes in the design to be easily addressed and seamlessly implemented in the final production of the work. The use of parametric software also allowed for a high degree of accuracy and consistency in the production of the wooden louvers, ensuring that each part fit perfectly into the overall design of the sculpture.
